Alvarado Hospital Medical Center is a 306-bed acute care hospital offering advanced, specialized healthcare services to the San Diego community. Our vision is to provide our community with a unique hospital that blends outstanding medical care and leading-edge technology with highly personalized service.
Alvarado Hospitalís programs and services include the well-known Advanced Spine Institute & Minimally Invasive Spine Center, the San Diego Rehabilitation Institute and the Alvarado Surgical Weight-Loss Program. The hospital has one of the first hospital-based sexual medicine programs in the U.S. Our fast and efficient emergency department posts our current approximate average wait times. Other programs include cardiac services, endoscopy/GI, neuroscience, orthopedics, oncology, pain management, rehabilitation, general surgical services, skull-base surgery, sleep center and vascular services, among others.
A staff of more than 900 registered nurses, technicians and support staff work alongside our more than 400 physicians providing our patients with quality healthcare in a compassionate and personalized environment.
Serving San Diego since 1972, we are conveniently located adjacent to San Diego State University. We also our proud of our more than 400 active volunteers.
Licensed and Accredited
Our 306-bed hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission, the nationís leading accrediting body for hospitals. Alvarado was the first hospital in the western U.S. to earn two certifications in stroke care from The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center and the Gold Seal of Approval for Stroke Rehabilitation. The hospital also is a designated STEMI (severe heart attack) receiving center. Our oncology program is an American College of Surgeons-certified community cancer center.
