Diabetes has been linked to increased risk of heart-related illnesses. Having received education recognition from the American Diabetes Association, Alvarado's diabetes center’s objective is to offer programs and personal consultation for diabetes self-management education. Diabetes educators instruct participants on the diagnosis of diabetes, blood glucose monitoring, insulin and medication management, meal planning, problem solving, and provide information on resources for equipment and supplies.
