Patient Care Volunteers



Patient Care (Coverage varies; 3-hour shifts between 8 a.m.-7 p.m.)
 
Working directly with patients, this is for those volunteers who want to interact regularly with patients in a caring and compassionate manner. These positions are for those who want to stay busy, as well as spend their volunteer time interacting directly with patients making their time in the hospital as comfortable as possible.
 
Duties might include:
  • Transport patients in wheelchairs
  • Deliver specimens to the lab
  • Transport units of blood to the nursing units
  • Bring medical charts and equipment to the floors
  • Deliver flowers/books/magazines to the patients
  • Help respond to call light requests
  • Assist with patient comfort (for example, draw the blinds, help to find reading glasses, bring them a box of tissue, teach them how to work the remote control, put water in their flowers, visit)
  • Bring a blanket, snack or beverage with staff authorization
  • Restock supplies as needed
