At the 2014 San Diego Healthcare Champions of the Year Awards, an Alvarado
Hospital physician and nurse were honored for their "exceptional
leadership." Dr. James Bates was named Healthcare Physician Champion
of the Year, and Peggy Jezsu, Alvarado Hospital chief nursing officer,
was named Healthcare Nurse Champion of the Year.
More than 350 people attended the awards event, organized by the
San Diego Business Journal to honor those who have provided exceptional leadership and innovation
in the healthcare industry over the last year. The winners were announced
on Sept. 18 at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.
Dr. Bates is an orthopedic surgeon and a captain with the U.S. Navy Reserves, recently
returned from Afghanistan working as part of the Forward Surgical Team
responsible for the stabilization and preparation for aero-medical evacuations
of critically injured American, Coalition and Afghanistan Security Forces.
Upon return to San Diego, he was named the medical director responsible
for overseeing the clinical protocols for the new Advanced Joint Institute
at Alvarado Hospital, which opens in February 2015.
As chief nursing officer, Jezsu has been instrumental in transiting the
nursing program at Alvarado Hospital to Prime Healthcare over the last
three years. She successfully restructured leadership and led a team who
had just experienced significant changes in work operations.
Congratulations to Dr. James Bates and Peggy Jezsu!
