Senior Care Specialty Services
Alvarado Hospital's NEW Geriatric Behavioral Health Program
As advances in medicine and technology have allowed Americans to live longer,
there is a growing need for specialized services related to the aging
process. Alvarado Hospital’s new Gero-Psychiatic Unit provides cognitive,
emotional and behavioral care in a secure 24-hour-a-day inpatient setting
to address both medical and mental health needs of senior citizens.
Our Senior Care Specialty Care program provides a much-needed safety net
for the San Diego community. This unit is designed to meet the specific
needs of older adults with medical problems combined with mental health
issues unique to this population.
Seniors 65 and older who suffer from behavioral health issues that may
be compounded with medical or neurological problems, such as Alzheimer’s
or Parkinson’s Disease, can receive comprehensive treatment by our
team of physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, and therapists.
Common behavioral health disorders that will be treated are:
- Bipolar disorder
