About the Auxiliary

All volunteers volunteer their time through the Alvarado Auxiliary, which is a non-profit organization, separate from the hospital, established in February 1972. The auxiliary's mission is to minister to the non-medical needs of patients in an effort to improve their mental well-being and physical comfort, as well as outreach to the community.

All hospital volunteers are auxiliary members. There is an elected executive board and an appointed board of directors of volunteer leaders. Fundraisers throughout the year (i.e. Annual Golf Tournament, Scrub Sales, See’s Candy Sales, Book Sales, etc.) fund many of the hospital's outreach events and philanthropic causes, including the annual restorative golf tournament, the Sir Koff-A-Lot bears for open-heart patients, and Project E.A.S.E. for unfunded emergency needs of patients administered by the hospital social support services.

The fundraisers also fund the Chaplains Program Grants given to cancer patients treated on our campus, scholarships for active volunteers, continuing their education, surgical waiting room coffee, candy and newspaper, and the Salvation Army Adopt-A-Family.

Besides the ongoing projects, the auxiliary is open to supporting other philanthropic requests that coincide with their mission. Consideration is given to written requests addressed to the auxiliary’s president and presented to the board on a monthly basis.
